Ginalina
Musician / Author / Mother
The identities of an Asian musician in Canada
Where do you find inspiration? What kind of story do you want to share and what role does your cultural heritage play in connecting and sharing this dialogue? From a young age, Ginalina had a love for music, singing, and writing; often filling up journals faster than her teachers could keep up. Music was always in balance throughout schooling, her early career in Healthcare Engineering, and while raising young children. She is popular for her clear, warm voice, upbeat musical arrangements, and solid lyrics inspired by nature, family, and building strong communities.
Ginalina is a Western Canadian Music Award winner, and has been nominated for two Juno Awards, multiple Canadian Folk Music Awards, and Parents’ Choice Awards across 5 albums. She performs locally, nationally, and internationally in French, Mandarin, and English. Ginalina is now finishing up her first published children’s book – The Mighty River – inspired by the beauty of the west coast and the importance of rivers.
